Ecommerce and online shopping is growing at a rapid rate. In US alone, eCommerce is worth over $304 billion Alibaba.com, the Chinese B2B eCommerce giants, made more than $9 billion in sales on the Singles Day recently (11 Nov), while the annual Black Friday online sales are now estimated at almost $1.3 billion. Consumers are increasingly turning towards online stores for shopping, as a result of which ecommerce startups are now popping up all over the globe.
These are exciting times for online entrepreneurs, especially the ones who already have blogs, loyal readers and email subscribers. If you’re one of them, you can easily convert these subscribers into paying customers by selling directly to them.
WordPress has already simplified blog creation and subscriber management. Recently, I came across an eCommerce plugin that is surprisingly easy to configure and use. Selz, a simple to use digital selling and online store solution, has a free WordPress eCommerce plugin that makes selling online a breeze.
Selz is a simple way to set up an online store for individual bloggers and creative freelancers selling digital products, or even small businesses looking to sell physical products. It comes with all the features you need including a simple high converting checkout built for mobile. In fact, its design is specifically optimized for mobile commerce.
It handles international payments with Visa, MasterCard, Amex plus you can offer customers the choice of buying using PayPal. Selz also makes a good choice for digital product sellers looking to comply with the new EU VAT rules on digital sales.
In this post, I’ll show you how you can set up a complete ecommerce website, in just a few minutes, using this WordPress plugin.
Setting Up Your WordPress Ecommerce Store With Selz
To set up your WordPress ecommerce store using Selz, you first need to sign up and configure the store on its website. Once your store and products are set up, you can embed them to your WordPress website using the Selz plugin. Here’s the step by step process.
Sign up for a free account with your email or social media accounts.
Add your payment information to the dashboard. Selz will use this to send you buyer payments. You can get paid with PayPal or directly to your US bank account.
Select the type of products or services you want to sell. You can sell physical and digital products or services.
Just add a preview image or video of your product, upload the product file, add description, set the price and publish your product. You have the choice of using a buy button, widget, or embeding an online store on any page on your site.
You can upload files of up to 15 GB in size. This comes handy if you’re selling video tutorials or movies. You can also bundle up multiple files as one. This is how the product widget would appear on your site.
Once you publish the product, you’ll get a unique product link. This will be used for embedding the product in WordPress.
Alternatively, if you’re setting up an online store, you can install the Selz Store Pro App from their app store. Store Pro will create a complete ecommerce store for you that can be attached to your WordPress website later. Here’s how your store would appear.
Remember, we’re still on the Selz website setting up your products or store. One last thing, before we move on to the WordPress plugin, is the free integration with your MailChimp or Aweber account.
List building is crucial for any blogger or online entrepreneur. When you integrate your auto-responder account with Selz, it will collect the emails of all your buyers at the checkout stage and add them to your list. You can integrate it from your account dashboard.
Configuring the Selz eCommerce WordPress Plugin
Now that you have configured your products/store from your main Selz dashboard, you can embed them to your WordPress website and convert it into an online store.
Here’s the step by step process.
- Download and install the Selz ecommerce plugin from the WordPress plugin library.
- Once the plugin is installed and activated, you can access it from the Appearanceà Widgets tab in your WordPress dashboard menu. From here, you can drag and drop your Selz product widget into your sidebar or footer area.
- Alternatively, you can add your product widgets or online store to a page or post by using the Selz button in the post menu.
- Configuring the plugin is simple, you just need to copy the unique product or store link (generated when you created the products on Selz website) and paste it in the “item link” field. You can also alter the appearance of your widget and change the colors of the buttons and text.
- That’s it, your online store or products will appear exactly the same way on your website, as they appeared on Selz.
This complete process of setting up the products or store on the Selz website and then embedding them in the WordPress website, took me less than 15 minutes. And I’m no technical expert. It’s that easy.
Payment Modes and Checkout Experience
Many online sellers face problems when collecting buyer payments, due to a variety of reasons. Well, you’ll have to face none of that with Selz. Your buyers can pay using Master Card, Visa and PayPal (as an add-on).
When a buyer clicks on the Buy Now button on your product widget, the whole payment process will be completed without any redirections. This is a key user experience point, since a large number of buyers abandon their purchase because of the redirections in the checkout phase.
You can track your sales through the built in reporting on Selz, plus you can link it to your Google Analytics account. Each time you make a sale, Selz will pass to Google Analytics the details and you can use it to identify the best sources of customers.
The best thing about this product is that it’s free to use. It costs absolutely nothing to create mobile responsive product widgets or online store with Selz. You can add as many products as you want. There are no set up or monthly fees. Selz only charges you 5% of your product sales price + 0.25 when you make a sale.
Because of the growth of ecommerce, many developers and startups are creating new WordPress ecommerce plugins and online store solutions. I’ve used several tools over the last few months for myself and for my clients, but Selz is definitely ahead of most of them. It is a surprisingly versatile and feature packed product that offers a very affordable pricing model and, above all, is extremely easy to set up even for the most non-technical users.
